Synopsis
Unable to find peace after the death of his sister, Amit Eshel embarks on an arduous journey into Mongolia’s Altai Mountains.
Up impossibly steep inclines, down deep gorges and across frozen rivers, he refuses to let go of his dream: to find and photograph the elusive snow leopard. Immersed in pure nature and disconnected from the outside world, Amit begins to see how his search for the "Ghost of the Mountain” is a quest to understand the unquiet spirit of a beloved sister and find forgiveness.

Director’s Statement
Setting out to shoot a film following
wildlife photographer Amit Eshel,
I assumed I was making a documentary about the snow leopard. Perhaps we would
catch sight of this rare and mysterious creature, perhaps not. I expected difficulties and disappointment to accompany us, but what I did not foresee was what would eventually emerge amid the stunning natural beauty of Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. For Amit, it turns out, there was more to his dream than shooting photos of the elusive “Ghost of the Mountain.” In the vivid cold and muted quiet, Amit revealed to me a great loss in his life, his very personal story of his family’s struggle to understand and help his mentally ill sister. It is my hope that Amit’s soul- searching, beautifully and honestly told, will illuminate the importance of nature as a way of healing even the deepest wounds.
